We have a special presentation for the next St Pat’s Movie Night: a lecture by Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer the author of the best-selling and universally acclaimed book “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants.” This was an event, (April 21) in the Seattle Arts & Lectures series: “Women You Need to Know” (WYNK). The lecture was followed by a conversation with Dr. Christina Roberts, who is an Associate Professor of English at Seattle University and the inaugural director of the Indigenous Peoples Institute (IPI).
I’ll provide just one line from one of the many glowing reviews of Dr. Kimmerer’s book: “Robin Wall Kimmerer has written an extraordinary book, showing how the factual, objective approach of science can be enriched by the ancient knowledge of the indigenous people. It is the way she captures beauty that I love the most―the images of giant cedars and wild strawberries, a forest in the rain and a meadow of fragrant sweetgrass will stay with you long after you read the last page.”―Jane Goodall
Now, here is the tricky part: Seattle Arts & Lectures (SAL) has a “Pay-What-You-Can Pricing” policy for its events. SAL says: “To ensure that our online events are as available as possible, to the widest audience possible, we’re putting it into patrons' hands to pay what they can for digital passes. Choose a ticket price, ranging from $10 to $100, based upon what feels right to you and the number of people who will be watching along with you.” The most reasonable digital pass level is their “Student of Life Pass” for $10. We cannot possibly collect contributions for our showing as the period for online purchases and access to the lecture ends next Wednesday. So, we must ask you to go to https://lectures.secure.force.com/ticket/#/instances/a0Ff400000GnuNZEAZ and make the payment/contribution you wish. Making such a payment will get you the password in order to be able to watch the lecture on your own (up to next Wed), if you wish.
Everyone is welcome to join us next Wednesday for the showing, whether or not you can (or remember to) buy a digital pass. Collectively, we will contribute enough for the showing.
So, join us, as usual, on zoom, 7pm, Wednesday, April 28, https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87671456490?pwd=R09WSENPMWFwMndZRnFVZjJxZ3J2UT09
